God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen

Hymnal: Worship and Song #3052 (2011) Meter: Irregular with refrain Topics: Christian Year and Observances Christmas Refrain First Line: O tidings of comfort and joy Lyrics: 1 God rest you merry, gentlemen, let nothing you dismay, for Jesus Christ our Savior was born upon this day, to save us all from Satan's power when we were gone astray. Refrain: O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy; O tidings of comfort and joy. 2 In Bethlehem in Judah this blessed babe was born, and laid within a manger upon this blessed morn: for which his mother Mary did nothing take in scorn. [Refrain] 3 From God our heavenly Father a blessed angel came, and unto certain shepherds brought tidings of the same, how that in Bethlehem was born the Son of God by name. [Refrain] 4 The shepherds at those tidings rejoiced much in mind, and left their flocks a-feeding in tempest, storm, and wind, and went to Bethlehem straightway, the blessed babe to find. [Refrain] 5 Now to the Lord sing praises, all you within this place, and with true love and brotherhood each other now embrace; this holy tide of Christmas all others doth deface. Author: Micahel Perry Hymnal: Worship and Song #3061 (2011) Meter: Irregular Topics: Christian Year and Observances Christmas Refrain First Line: Oh, now carry me to Bethlehem Lyrics: 1 See him lying on a bed of straw: a drafty stable with an open door; Mary cradling the babe she bore - the Prince of glory is his name. If I Could Visit Bethlehem

Author: Brian Wren Hymnal: Worship and Song #3063 (2011) Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Topics: Christian Year and Observances Christmas Lyrics: 1 If I could visit Bethlehem what presents would I bring? If I could see what happened then, what would I say or sing? I wouldn't take a modern toy but gold to pay for bread, some wine to give his parents joy and wool to warm his bed. 2 I'd learn some simple words to speak in Aramaic tongues. I'd cradle him, and kiss his cheek, and say, "I'm glad you've come." If Mary asked me who I was and what her child would do, I wouldn't talk about the cross or tell he all I knew. 3 I'd say, "He'll never hurt or kill, and joy will follow tears. We'll know his name and love him still in twenty hundred years." I cannot visit Bethlehem but what I can, I'll do: I'll love you, Jesus, as my friend, and give my life to you. Scripture: Psalm 30:3 Languages: English Tune Title: CAROL STREAM
