Jesus, United by Your Grace

Author: Charles Wesley Hymnal: Voices United #591 (1996) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Proper 8 Year C Lyrics: 1 Jesus, united by your grace, and each to each endeared, with confidence we seek your face, and know our prayer is heard. 2 Help us to see in each a friend, each other's cross to bear, let all their friendly aid extend, and feel the other's care. 3 Up into you, our living head, let us in all things grow, till you have made us free indeed and faithful here below. 4 Drawn by the lodestone of your love, let all our hearts unite; let us toward each other move, and move toward your light. There's a wideness in God's mercy

Author: F. W. Faber, 1814-1863 Hymnal: Common Praise #598a (2000) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Topics: Proper 8 Year B Lyrics: 1 There's a wideness in God's mercy like the wideness of the sea; there's a kindness in his justice which is more than liberty. 2 There is no place where earth's sorrows are more felt than up in heaven; there is no place where earth's failings have such kindly judgement given. 3 For the love of God is broader than the measure of man's mind; and the heart of the Eternal is most wonderfully kind. 4 But we make his love too narrow by false limits of our own; and we magnify his strictness with a zeal he will not own. 5 There is plentiful redemption in the blood that has been shed; there is joy for all the members in the sorrows of the Head. 6 There is grace enough for thousands of new worlds as great as this; there is room for fresh creations in that upper home of bliss. Descant: If our love were but more simple, we should take him at his word; and our lives would be all gladness in the joy of Christ our Lord. Scripture: Ephesians 1:7 Languages: English Tune Title: CORVEDALE

Immortal Love for ever full

Author: John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892) Hymnal: Ancient and Modern #675 (2013) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Proper 8 Year B Lyrics: 1 Immortal Love for ever full, for ever flowing free, for ever shared, for ever whole, a never-ebbing sea. 2 Our outward lips confess the name all other names above; love only knoweth whence it came and comprehendeth love. 3 We may not climb the heavenly steeps to bring the Lord Christ down; in vain we search the lowest deeps, for him no depths can drown: 4 But warm, sweet, tender, even yet a present help is he; and faith has still its Olivet, and love its Galilee. 5 The healing of his seamless dress is by our beds of pain; we touch him in life's throng and press, and we are whole again. 6 Through him the first fond prayers are said our lips of childhood frame; the last low whispers of our dead are burdened with his name. 7 Alone, O Love ineffable, thy saving name is given; to turn aside from thee is hell, to walk with thee is heaven. Abide with Me

Author: Henry Francis Lyte Hymnal: Voices United #436 (1996) Meter: 10.10.10.10 Topics: Proper 8 Year C First Line: Abide with me, fast falls the eventide Lyrics: 1 Abide with me; fast falls the eventide: the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide; when other helpers fail, and comforts flee, help of the helpless, O abide with me. 2 Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day; earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away; change and decay in all around I see: O Christ, who changes not, abide with me. 3 I need your presence every passing hour; what but your grace can foil the tempter's power? Who like yourself my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me. 4 I have no fear with you at hand to bless; ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness; where is death's sting? Where, grave, your victory? I triumph still, if you abide with me. 5 Hold now your cross before my closing eyes; shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies; heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee; in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
