Thou art coming, O my Saviour!

Author: Frances R. Havergal Hymnal: The Hymnal, Revised and Enlarged, as adopted by the General Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America in the year of our Lord 1892 #317a (1894) Meter: Irregular Topics: Love to God Lyrics: 1 Thou art coming, O my Saviour! Thou art coming, O my King! In Thy beauty all resplendent, In Thy glory all transcendent; Well may we rejoice and sing; Coming: in the opening east Herald brightness slowly swells; Coming: O Thou glorious Priest, Hear we not Thy golden bells? 2 Thou art coming, Thou art coming; We shall meet Thee on Thy way; We shall see Thee, we shall know Thee, We shall bless Thee, we shall show Thee All our hearts could never say; What an anthem that will be, Music rapturously sweet, Pouring out our love to Thee At Thine own all-glorious feet. 3 Thou art coming; at Thy table We are witnesses for this; While remembering hearts Thou meetest In communion clearest, sweetest, Earnest of our coming bliss; Showing not Thy death alone, And Thy love exceeding great, But Thy coming, and Thy throne, All for which we long and wait. 4 Thou art coming; we are waiting With a hope that cannot fail; Asking not the day or hour, Resting on Thy word of power, Anchored safe within the veil. Time appointed may be long, But the vision must be sure; Certainty shall make us strong, Joyful patience can endure. 5 Oh, the joy to see Thee reigning, Thee, our own belovèd Lord! Every tongue Thy Name confessing, Worship, honor, glory, blessing Brought to Thee with one accord; Thee, our Master and our Friend, Vindicated and enthroned, Unto earth's remotest end Glorified, adored, and owned! Amen. Languages: English Tune Title: [Thou art coming, O my Saviour!]

Come, ye that love the Lord

Hymnal: Book of Worship (Rev. ed.) #334 (1870) Meter: 6.6.8.6 Topics: Love To God Lyrics: 1 Come, ye that love the Lord, And let your joys be known; Join in a song with sweet accord, And ye surround the throne. 2 Let those refuse to sing Who never knew our God; But children of the Heavenly King, May speak their joys abroad. 3 The God who rules on high, Who all the earth surveys, Who rides upon the stormy sky, And calms the roaring seas: 4 This awful God is ours, Our Father and our love; He will send down His heavenly powers To carry us above. 5 There shall we see His face, And never, never sin! There, from the rivers of His grace, Drink endless pleasures in. 6 Then let our songs abound, And ev'ry tear be dry; We're marching through Immanuel's ground, To fairer worlds on high. My God, I love Thee: not because

Author: Rev. E. Caswall; S. Francis Xavier Hymnal: The Hymnal, Revised and Enlarged, as adopted by the General Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America in the year of our Lord 1892 #653 (1894) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Love to God Lyrics: 1 My God, I love Thee: not because I hope for heaven thereby; Nor yet because,if I love not I must forever die. 2 But, O my Jesus, Thou didst me Upon the cross embrace; For me didst bear the nails and spear, And manifold disgrace, 3 And griefs and torments numberless, And sweat of agony, E'en death itself; and all for me Who was Thine enemy. 4 Then why, O blessèd Jesus Christ, Should I not love Thee well? Not for the hope of winning heaven, Of of escaping hell; 5 Not with the hope of gaining aught; Not seeking a reward: But as Thyself hast lovèd me, O ever-loving Lord! 6 E'en so I love Thee, and will love, And in Thy praise will sing; Solely because Thou art my God, And my eternal King. Amen. Languages: English Tune Title: [My God, I love Thee: not because]

There's a wideness in God's mercy

Author: Dr. F. W. Faber, 1814-1863 Hymnal: Methodist Hymn and Tune Book #36 (1917) Topics: Love To God Lyrics: 1. There's a wideness in God's mercy, Like the wideness of the sea; There's a kindness in His justice, Which is more than liberty. 2. There is no place where earth's sorrows Are more felt than up in heaven; There is no place where earth's failings Have such kindly judgment given. 3. There is welcome for the sinner, And more graces for the good; There is mercy with the Saviour; There is healing in His blood. 4. For the love of God is broader Than the measure of man's mind; And the heart of the Eternal Is most wonderfully kind. 5. There is plentiful redemption In the blood that has been shed, There is joy for all the members In the sorrows of the Head. 6. If our love were but more simple, We should take Him at His word, And our lives would be all sunshine In the favour of our Lord. In many editions the hymn begins with the following stanzas: Was there ever kindest shepherd Half so gentle, half so sweet, As the Saviour who would have us Come and gather round His feet? Souls of men, why will ye scatter Like a crowd of frightened sheep? Foolish hearts, why will ye wander From a love so true and deep? Languages: English Tune Title: NEWTON FERNS
