Heavy clouds are gathering fast

Author: Anon. Hymnal: The Seventh-Day Adventist Hymn and Tune Book #410 (1886) Topics: The Sinner Warning and Invitation Lyrics: 1 Heavy clouds are gathering fast, Tokens of destruction sure; Sinner, now before the blast, Seek a shelter to secure. 2 Thousand voices from afar, Warn thee of thy coming fate: Careless sinner, now beware! Haste thee, ere it be too late! 3 Crimes in every shape increase; Judgments stalk throughout the land; Signs are borne on every breeze, That destruction is at hand. 4 Darker clouds will soon arise, Louder still the thunders roar, Fiercer lightnings pierce the skies, But the sinner's day is o'er. Hell, the Sinner's own Place

Author: Ryland, junior Hymnal: A Selection of Hymns #DLXXX (1792) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Hell The sinner's own place First Line: Lord, when I read the traitor's doom Lyrics: 1 Lord when I read the traitor's doom, To "his own place" consin'd, What holy fear and humble hope Alternate fill my mind! 2 Traitor to thee I too have been, But sav'd by matchless grace, Or else the lowest, hottest hell Had surely been my place. 3 Thither I was by law adjudg'd, And thitherward rush'd on; And there in my eternal doom Thy justice might have shone. 4 But lo! (what wondrous, matchless love!) I call a place my own On earth within the gospel sound And at thy gracious throne. 5 A place is mine among thy saints, A place at Jesu's feet, And I expect in heaven a place Where saints and angels meet. 6 Blest lamb of God, thy sovereign grace To all around I'd tell, Which made a place in glory mine, Whose just desert was hell. Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched

Hymnal: The Book of Worship #262 (1867) Topics: Man a Sinner Invited Lyrics: 1 Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched, Weak and wounded, sick and sore! Jesus ready stands to save you, Full of pity joined with power: He is able, He is willing: doubt no more. 2 Now, ye needy! come and welcome; God's free bounty glorify: True belief, and true repentance, Every grace that brings us nigh-- Without money, Come to Jesus Christ, and buy. 3 Let not conscience make you linger, Nor of fitness fondly dream; All the fitness He requireth, Is to feel your need of Him; This He gives you, 'Tis the Spirit's rising beam. 4 Come, ye weary, heavy laden, Lost and ruined by the fall! If you tarry till you're better, You will never come at all: Not the righteous,-- Sinners Jesus came to call. 5 View Him prostrate in the garden; On the ground your Maker lies! On the bloody tree behold Him; Hear Him cry, before He dies, "It is finished!" Sinner, will not this suffice? 6 Lo! th' incarnate God, ascended, Pleads the merit of His blood; Venture on Him, venture wholly, Let no other trust intrude; None but Jesus Can do helpless sinners good. 7 Saints and angels, joined in concert, Sing the praises of the Lamb; While the blissful seats of heaven Sweetly echo with His name: Hallelujah! Sinners here may sing the same. Languages: English

Psalm 50

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.117 (1806) Topics: Sinner and saint's portion First Line: The God of glory sends his summons forth Lyrics: The God of glory sends his summons forth, Calls the south nations and awakes the north; From east to west the sovereign orders spread, Through distant worlds and regions of the dead: The trumpet sounds; hell trembles; heav'n rejoices Lift up your heads, ye saints, with cheerful voices. No more shall atheists mock his long delay; His vengeance sleeps no more; behold the day: Behold, the Judge descends; his guards are nigh; Tempests and fire attend him down the sky. When God appears, all nature shall adore him; While sinners tremble, saints rejoice before him. "Heav'n, earth, and hell, draw near; let all things come To hear my justice, and the sinner's doom; But gather first my saints," the Judge commands, "Bring them, ye angels, from their distant lands." When Christ returns, wake every cheerful passion And shout, ye saints; he comes for your salvation. "Behold, my cov'nant stands for ever good, Sealed by th' eternal Sacrifice in blood, And signed with all their names; the Greek, the Jew, That paid the ancient worship or the new." There's no distinction here; join all your voices, And raise your heads, ye saints, for heav'n rejoices. "Here," saith the Lord, "ye angels, spread their thrones And near me seat my fav'rites and my sons: Come, my redeemed, possess the joys prepared Ere time began; 'tis your divine reward." When Christ returns, wake every cheerful passion; And shout, ye saints; he comes for your salvation "I am the Savior, I th' Almighty God, I am the Judge: ye heav'ns, proclaim abroad My just eternal sentence, and declare Those awful truths that sinners dread to hear." When God appears, all nature shall adore him; While sinners tremble, saints rejoice before him. "Stand forth, thou bold blasphemer, and profane, Now feel my wrath, nor call my threat'nings vain: Thou hypocrite, once dressed in saints' attire, I doom the painted hypocrite to fire." Judgment proceeds; hell trembles; heav'n rejoices; Lift up your heads, ye saints, with cheerful voices. "Not for the want of goats or bullocks slain Do I condemn thee; bulls and goats are vain Without the flame of love; in vain the store Of brutal off'rings, that were mine before." Earth is the Lord's, all nature shall adore him; While sinners tremble, saints rejoice before him. "If I were hungry, would I ask thee food? When did I thirst, or drink thy bullocks' blood? Mine are the tamer beasts and savage breed, Flocks, herds, and fields and forests where they feed." All is the Lord's, he rules the wide creation; Gives sinners vengeance, and the saints salvation. "Can I be flatter'd with thy cringing bows, Thy solemn chatt'rings and fantastic vows? Are my eyes charmed thy vestments to behold, Glaring in gems, and gay in woven gold?" God is the Judge of hearts, no fair disguises Can screen the guilty when his vengeance rises. "Unthinking wretch! how couldst thou hope to please A God, a Spirit, with such toys as these, While, with my grace and statutes on thy tongue, Thou lov'st deceit, and dost thy brother wrong?" Judgment proceeds; hell trembles; heav'n rejoices; Lift up your heads, ye saints, with cheerful voices. "In vain to pious forms thy zeal pretends; Thieves and adulterers are thy chosen friends; While the false flatt'rer at my altar waits, His hardened soul divine instruction hates." God is the Judge of hearts, no fair disguises Can screen the guilty when his vengeance rises. "Silent I waited with long-suff'ring love; But didst thou hope that I should ne'er reprove? And cherish such an impious thought within, That the All-Holy would indulge thy sin?" See, God appears; all nature joins t' adore him; Judgment proceeds, and sinners fall before him. "Behold my terrors now; my thunders roll, And thy own crimes affright thy guilty soul; Now like a lion shall my vengeance tear Thy bleeding heart, and no deliv'rer near." Judgment concludes; hell trembles; heav'n rejoices; Lift up your heads, ye saints, with cheerful voices. Sinners, awake betimes; ye fools, be wise; Awake before this dreadful morning rise; Change your vain thoughts, your crooked works amend, Fly to the Savior, make the Judge your friend: Then join the saints, wake every cheerful passion; When Christ returns, he comes for your salvation.
