At the Settlement of a Church; or, The Ordination of a Minster

Hymnal: The Psalms of David #244b (1740) Topics: Ministers ordained First Line: Where shall we go to seek and find Lyrics: 1 Where shall we go to seek and find An Habitation for our GOD; A Dwelling for th' eternal Mind, Among the Sons of Flesh and Blood? 2 The GOD of Jacob chose the Hill Of Sion for his ancient Rest; And Sion is his Dwelling still, His Church is with his Presence blessed. 3 Here will I fix my gracious Throne, And reign for ever, saith the Lord; Here shall my Pow'r and Love be known, And Blessings shall attend my Word. 4 Here will I meet the hungry Poor, And fill their Souls with living Bread; Sinners that wait before my Door With sweet Provision shall be fed. 5 Girded with Truth, and cloath'd with Grace, My Priests, my Ministers shall shine; Not Aaron, in his costly Dress Made an Appearance so divine. 6 The Saints, unable to contain Their inward Joys, shall shout and sing; The Son of David here shall reign, And Sion triumph in her King. 7 [Jesus shall see a num'rous Seed Born here t'uphold his glorious Name; His Crown shall flourish on his Head, While all his Foes are cloath'd with Shame.] Scripture: Psalm 132:5 Languages: English

Psalm 132

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.302 (1806) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Ministers ordained First Line: No sleep nor slumber to his eyes Lyrics: [No sleep nor slumber to his eyes Good David would afford, Till he had found below the skies A dwelling for the Lord. The Lord in Zion placed his name, His ark was settled there; To Zion the whole nation came To worship thrice a year. But we have no such lengths to go, Nor wander far abroad; Where'er thy saints assemble now, There is a house for God.] Arise, O King of grace, arise, And enter to thy rest! Lo! thy church waits with longing eyes Thus to be owned and blessed. Enter with all thy glorious train, Thy Spirit and thy word; All that the ark did once contain Could no such grace afford. Here, mighty God, accept our vows, Here let thy praise be spread; Bless the provisions of thy house, And fill thy poor with bread. Here let the Son of David reign, Let God's Anointed shine; Justice and truth his court maintain With love and power divine. Here let him hold a lasting throne; And as his kingdom grows, Fresh honors shall adorn his crown, And shame confound his foes. Scripture: Psalm 132:4-5 Languages: English

When Isr'el, freed from Pharaoh's Hand

Hymnal: The Psalms of David #P114 (1766) Topics: Ministers ordained Lyrics: 1 When Isr'el, freed from Pharaoh's Hand, Left the proud Tyrant, and his Land, The Tribes with chearful Homage own Their King, and Judah was his Throne. 2 Across the Deep their Journey lay; The Deep divides to make them Way; Jordan beheld their March, and fled With backward Current to his Head. 3 The Mountains shook like frighted Sheep, Like Lambs the little Hillocks leap! Not Sinai on her Base could stand, Conscious of sov'reign Pow'r at Hand. 4 What Pow'r could make the Deep divide? Make Jordan backward roll his Tide? Why did ye leap, ye little Hills? And whence the Fright that Sinai feels? 5 Let ev'ry Mountain, ev'ry Flood, Retire and know th' approaching GOD, The King of Isr'el: see him here: Tremble thou Earth, adore and fear. 6 He thunders, and all Nature mourns, The Rock to standing Pools he turns; Flints spring with Fountains at his Word, And Fires and Seas confess the Lord.
