Chorus: How beautiful to walk in the steps of the Savior, Stepping in the light, stepping in the light; How beautiful to walk in the steps of the Savior, Led in paths of light. 2 Pressing more closely to Him who is leading, When we are tempted to turn from the way; Trusting the arm that is strong to defend us, Happy, how happy, our praises each day. (Chorus) 3 Walking in footsteps of gentle forbearance, Footsteps of faithfulness, mercy and love, Looking to Him for the grace freely promised, Happy, how happy, our journey above. Psalm 109

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.239 (1806) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Christ Our example First Line: God of my mercy and my praise Lyrics: God of my mercy and my praise, Thy glory is my song, Though sinners speak against thy grace With a blaspheming tongue. When in the form of mortal man Thy Son on earth was found, With cruel slanders, false and vain, They compassed him around. Their miseries his compassion move, Their peace he still pursued; They render hatred for his love, And evil for his good. Their malice raged without a cause, Yet, with his dying breath, He prayed for murderers on his cross, And blessed his foes in death. Lord, shall thy bright example shine In vain before my eyes? Give me a soul akin to thine, To love my enemies. The Lord shall on my side engage, And, in my Savior's name, I shall defeat their pride and rage Who slander and condemn. Give me the Wings of Faith to rise

Hymnal: The Psalms of David #II.CXL (1766) Topics: Example of Christ; Example of Saints Lyrics: 1 Give me the Wings of Faith to rise Within the Veil, and see The Saints above, how great their Joys, How bright their Glories be? 2 Once they were mourning here below, And wet their Couch with Tears; They wrestled hard, as we do now, With Sin, and Doubts and Fears. 3 I ask them whence their Vict'ry came? They with united Breath, Ascribe their Conquest to the Lamb, Their Triumph to his Death. 4 They mark'd the Footsteps that he trod (His Zeal inspir'd their Breast) And, following their incarnate God, Possess'd the promis'd Rest. 5 Our glorious Leader claims our Praise For his own Pattern giv'n, While the long Cloud of Witnesses Show the same Path to Heav'n. Chisholm Hymnal: Favorite Hymns of Praise #18 (1967) Topics: Christ Example; Christ Example First Line: O to be like Thee! blessed Redeemer Lyrics: 1 O to be like Thee! blessed Redeemer, This is my constant longing and prayer; Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures, Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear. Chorus: O to be like Thee! O to be like Thee, Blessed Redeemer, pure as Thou art; Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness; Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart. 2 O to be like Thee, full of compassion, Loving, forgiving, tender and kind, Helping the helpless, cheering the fainting, Seeking the wand’ring sinner to find. (Chorus) 3 O to be like Thee! lowly in spirit, Holy and harmless, patient and brave; Meekly enduring cruel reproaches, Willing to suffer others to save. (Chorus) 4 O to be like Thee! Lord I am coming, Now to receive th'anointing divine; All that I am and have I am bringing. Lord, from this moment all shall be Thine. Join all the glorious names

Author: Dr. Isaac Watts, 1674-1748 Hymnal: Methodist Hymn and Tune Book #93a (1917) Topics: Christ Example, our; Example Christ our Lyrics: 1 Join all the glorious names Of wisdom, love, and power, That ever mortals knew, That angels ever bore; All are too mean to speak His worth, Too mean to set our Saviour forth. 2 But O what gentle means, What condescending ways, Doth our Redeemer use To teach His heavenly grace; My soul, with joy and wonder see What forms of love He bears for thee! 3 Great Prophet of my God, My lips shall bless Thy name: By Thee the joyful news Of our salvation came; The joyful news of sins forgiven, Of hell subdued, and peace with heaven. 4 Jesus, my great High Priest, Offered His blood and died; My guilty conscience seeks No sacrifice beside; His powerful blood did once atone, And now it pleads before the throne. 5 O thou almighty Lord, My Conqueror and my King! Thy scepter and Thy sword, Thy reign of grace, I sing; Thine is the power; behold, I sit In willing bonds before Thy feet. Languages: English Tune Title: CHRISTCHURCH
