Psalm 23

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.53 (1806) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Restoring grace First Line: My Shepherd is the living Lord Lyrics: My Shepherd is the living Lord; Now shall my wants be well supplied; His providence and holy word Become my safety and my guide. In pastures where salvation grows He makes me feed, he makes me rest; There living water gently flows, And all the food's divinely blest. My wand'ring feet his ways mistake, But he restores my soul to peace, And leads me, for his mercy's sake, In the fair paths of righteousness. Though I walk through the gloomy vale Where death and all its terrors are, My heart and hope shall never fail, For God my Shepherd's with me there. Amidst the darkness and the deeps Thou art my comfort, thou my stay; Thy staff supports my feeble steps, Thy rod directs my doubtful way. The sons of earth, and sons of hell, Gaze at thy goodness, and repine To see my table spread so well With living bread and cheerful wine. [How I rejoice when on my head Thy Spirit condescends to rest! 'Tis a divine anointing, shed Like oil of gladness at a feast. Surely the mercies of the Lord Attend his household all their days; There will I dwell to hear his word, To seek his face, and sing his praise. Scripture: Psalm 23 Languages: English

Psalm 23

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.54 (1806) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Restoring grace First Line: My shepherd will supply my need Lyrics: My shepherd will supply my need, Jehovah is his name; In pastures fresh he makes me feed, Beside the living stream. He brings my wand'ring spirit back When I forsake his ways; And leads me, for his mercy's sake, In paths of truth and grace. When I walk through the shades of death, Thy presence is my stay; A word of thy supporting breath Drives all my fears away. Thy hand, in sight of all my foes, Doth still my table spread, My cup with blessings overflows, Thine oil anoints my head. The sure provisions of my God Attend me all my days: O may thy house be mine abode, And all my work be praise! There would I find a settled rest, While others go and come; No more a stranger or a guest, But like a child at home. Scripture: Psalm 23 Languages: English

God, who in various methods told

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: The Psalms and Hymns of Dr. Watts #96 (1835) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Restoring grace Lyrics: God, who in various methods told His mind and will to saints of old, Sent down his Son, with truth and grace, To teach us in these latter days. Our nation reads the written word, That book of life, that sure record: The bright inheritance of heav'n Is by the sweet conveyance giv'n. God's kindest thoughts are here expressed, Able to make us wise and bless'd; The doctrines are divinely true, Fit for reproof and comfort too. Ye British isles, who read his love In long epistles from above, (He hath not sent his sacred word To every land,) praise ye the Lord. Scripture: Hebrews 1:1-2 Languages: English

Jesus, we bless thy Father's name

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: The Psalms and Hymns of Dr. Watts #125 (1835) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Restoring grace Lyrics: Jesus, we bless thy Father's name; Thy God and ours are both the same; What heav'nly blessings from his throne Flow down to sinners through his Son! "Christ be my first elect," he said, Then chose our souls in Christ our head, Before he gave the mountains birth, Or laid foundations for the earth. Thus did eternal love begin To raise us up from death and sin; Our characters were then decreed, "Blameless in love, a holy seed." Predestinated to be sons, Born by degrees, but chose at once, A new regenerated race, To praise the glory of his grace. With Christ our Lord we share our part In the affections of his heart; Nor shall our souls be thence removed, Till he forgets his first-beloved. Scripture: Ephesians 1:3 Languages: English

He leads me to the place Where heav'nly pasture grows, Where living waters gently pass, And full salvation flows. if e'er I go astray, He doth my Soul reclaim; And guides me in his own right way, For his most holy name. While he affords his aid I cannot yield to fear; Though I should walk through death's dark shade, My Shepherd's with me there. With all my pow'rs of heart and tongue

Hymnal: Church Hymn Book #P.CXXXVIII (1816) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Restoring and Preserving Grace Lyrics: 1 With all my pow'rs of heart and tongue I'll praise my Maker in my song; Angels, shall hear the notes I raise, Approve the song, and join the praise. 2 Angels that make thy church their care Shall witness my devotions there, While holy zeal directs my eyes To thy fair temple in the skies. 3 I'll sing thy truth and mercy, Lord, I'll sing the wonders of thy word; Not all the works and names below So much thy pow'r and glory show. 4 To God I cry'd when troubles rose; He heard me, and subdu'd my foes: He did my rising fears control, And strength diffus'd through all my soul. 5 The God of heav'n maintains his state, Frowns on the proud, and scorns the great But from his throne descends to bless the humble souls that trust his grace. 6 Amidst a thousand snares I stand Upheld and guarded by thy hand; Thy words my fainting soul revive, And keep my dying faith alive. 7 Grace will complete what grace begins, To save from sorrows or from sins; The work that wisdom undertakes, Eternal mercy ne'er forsakes. Scripture: Psalm 138 Languages: English
