Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.208 (1806) Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 Topics: Jehovah reigns First Line: Let all the earth their voices raise Lyrics: Let all the earth their voices raise To sing the choicest psalm of praise, To sing and bless Jehovah's name: His glory let the heathens know, His wonders to the nations show, And all his saving works proclaim. The heathens know thy glory, Lord, The wond'ring nations read thy word, In Britain is Jehovah known: Our worship shall no more be paid To gods which mortal hands have made; Our Maker is our God alone. He framed the globe, he built the sky, He made the shining worlds on high, And reigns complete in glory there: His beams are majesty and light; His beauties, how divinely bright! His temple, how divinely fair! Come the great day, the glorious hour, When earth shall feel his saving power, And barb'rous nations fear his name; Then shall the race of man confess The beauty of his holiness, And in his courts his grace proclaim. The Vengeance and Compassion of God

Hymnal: Doctor Watts's imitation of the Psalms of David, to which is added a collection of hymns; the whole applied to the state of the Christian Church in general (3rd ed.) #116 (1786) Topics: Jehovah; Jehovah First Line: Let God arise in all his might Lyrics: 1 Let God arise in all his might, And put the troops of hell to flight; As smoak that sought to cloud the skies Before the rising tempest flies. 2 [He comes array'd in burning flames; Justice and judgment are his names; Behold his fainting foes expire, Like melting wax before the fire.] 3 He rides and thunders through the sky; His name Jehovah sounds on high: Sing to his name, ye sons of grace; Ye saints rejoice before his face. 4 The widow and the fatherless Fly to his aid in sharp distress; In him the poor and helpless find A judge that’s just, a father kind. 5 He breaks the captive’s heavy chain, And prisoners see the light again; But rebels that dispute his will, Shall dwell in chains and darkness still. Pause. 6 Kingdoms and thrones to God belong; Crown him, ye nations, in your song; His wondrous names and powers rehearse, His honours shall enrich your verse. 7 He shakes the heavens with loud alarms; How terrible is God in arms! In Israel are his mercies known, Israel is his peculiar throne. 8 Proclaim him king, pronounce him blest; He’s your defence, your joy, your rest: When terrors rise, and nations faint, God is the strength of every saint.
