Author: Timothy Dudley-Smith Hymnal: New Hymns of Hope #171 Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Topics: Praise and Worship First Line: O God, accept your people's praise Lyrics: 1 O God, accept your people's praise,
creation's King and Lord,
the Father of eternal days
by angel hosts adored;
your high and holy Name they hymn,
to whom all praise belongs,
while cherubim and seraphim
unite in ceaseless songs.
2 Your glorious praise apostles sing,
the prophets tell your worth,
the martyrs honor heaven's King
as God in Christ on earth:
our God, whose arms are open wide,
your true and only Son,
and Spirit, advocate and guide,
eternal Three-in-One.
3 O Christ, you once in mercy came,
a virgin's child to be,
the Son of God in human frame
to set your people free;
to conquer death, to draw its sting,
and at the last to come,
ascended Savior, Judge and King,
to lead your people home.
4 Your blessing rest on us, we pray,
with mercies from above,
uphold and govern us this day
in righteousness and love;
for those whose hopes on God are set
shall not be put to shame:
the Lord himself is with us yet,
exalt his holy Name! Languages: English
