All my hope on God is founded

Author: Robert Bridges, 1844-1930; Joachim Neander, 1650-1680 Hymnal: Complete Anglican Hymns Old and New #19 (2000) Meter: 8.7.8.7.3.3.7 Topics: Year A Easter 3 Lyrics: 1 All my hope on God is founded; he doth still my trust renew. Me through change and chance he guideth, only good and only true. God unknown, he alone calls my heart to be his own. 2 Human pride and earthly glory, sword and crown betray his trust; what with care and toil he buildeth, tow'r and temple, fall to dust. But God's power, hour by hour, is my temple and my towe'r. 3 God's great goodness aye endureth, deep his wisdom, passing thought: splendour, light and life attend him, beauty springeth out of naught. Evermore, from his store new-born worlds rise and adore. 4 Still from earth to God eternal sacrifice of praise be done, high above all praises praising for the gift of Christ his Son. Christ doth call one and all: ye who follow shall not fall. Scripture: 1 Peter 1:21 Languages: English Tune Title: MICHAEL

I cannot tell

Author: William Young Fullerton, 1857-1932 Hymnal: Complete Anglican Hymns Old and New #303 (2000) Meter: 11.10.11.10.11.10.11.12 Topics: Year C Easter 3 First Line: I cannot tell how he whom angels worship Lyrics: 1 I cannot tell how he whom angels worship should stoop to love the peoples of the earth, or why as shepherd he should seek the wand'rer with his mysterious promise of new birth. But this I know, that he was born of Mary when Bethl'em's manger was his only home, and that he lived at Nazareth and laboured, and so the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is come. 2 I cannot tell how silently he suffered, as with his peace he graced this place of tears, or how his heart upon the cross was broken, the crown of pain to three and thirty years. But this I know, he heals the broken-hearted, and stays our sin, and calms our lurking fear, and lifts the burden from the heavy laden, for still the Saviour, Saviour of the world is here. 3 I cannot tell how he will win the nations, how he will claim his earthly heritage, how satisfy the needs and aspirations of east and west, of sinner and of sage. But this I know, all flesh shall see his glory, and he shall reap the harvest he has sown, and some glad day his sun will shine in splendour when he the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is known. 4 I cannot tell how all the lands shall worship, when, at his bidding, ev'ry storm is stilled, or who can say how great the jubilation when ev'ry heart with perfect love is filled. But this I know, the skies will thrill with rapture, and myriad, myriad human voices sing, and earth to heav'n and heav'n to earth, will answer: 'At last the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is King!' Scripture: Isaiah 40:5 Languages: English Tune Title: LONDONDERRY AIR

Jesus, Priceless Treasure

Author: Catherine Winkworth; Johann Franck Hymnal: Voices United #667 (1996) Meter: 6.6.5.6.6.5.7.8.6 Topics: Easter 3 Year A; Easter 3 Year A Lyrics: 1 Jesus, priceless treasure, source of purest pleasure, truest friend to me; long my heart hath panted, till it well-nigh fainted, thirsting after thee. Thine I am, O spotless Lamb, I will suffer naught to hide thee, ask for naught beside thee. 2 In thine arms I rest me; foes who would molest me cannot reach me here. Though the earth be shaking, every heart be quaking, God dispels our fear; sin and hell in conflict fell with their heaviest storms assail us: Jesus will not fail us. 3 Hence, all thoughts of sadness! For the Lord of gladness, Jesus, enters in: those who love the Father, though the storms may gather, still have peace within; yea, whate'er we here must bear, still in thee lies purest pleasure, Jesus, priceless treasure! I know that my redeemer lives

Author: S. Medley (1728-1799) Hymnal: Hymns for Today's Church (2nd ed.) #169 (1987) Topics: Easter 3 The Resurrection and the Life Lyrics: 1 I know that my redeemer lives — what comfort this assurance gives! he lives, he lives, who once was dead, he lives, my everlasting Head. 2 He lives, triumphant from the grave, he lives eternally to save; he lives, to bless me with his love, and intercedes for me above. 3 He lives to help in time of need, he lives, my hungry soul to feed; he lives, and grants me daily breath, he lives, and I shall conquer death. 4 He lives, my kind, wise, constant friend, who still will guard me to the end; he lives, and while he lives I'll sing, Jesus, my prophet, priest and king. 5 He lives, my saviour, to prepare a place in heaven, and lead me there; he lives, all glory to his name, Jesus, unchangeably the same. Scripture: Job 19:25 Languages: English Tune Title: CHURCH TRIUMPHANT
