It is not death to die

Hymnal: Christian Hymns #101 (1898) Meter: 6.6.8.6 Topics: Sickness, Death, and Burial Lyrics: 1 It is not death to die-- To leave this weary road, And 'midst the brotherhood on high, To be at home with God. 2 It is not death to close The eye long dimmed by tears, And wake in glorious repose To spend eternal years. 3 It is not death to bear The wrench that sets us free From dungeon chain, to breathe the air Of boundless liberty. 4 It is not death to fling Aside this sinful dust, And rise on strong exulting wing, To live among the just. 5 Jesus, Thou Prince of Life, Thy chosen cannot die: Like Thee, they conquer in the strife, To reign with Thee on high. The sting of death is sin

Author: James Montgomery Hymnal: Sacred Poems and Hymns #232 (1854) Meter: 6.6.8.6 Topics: Death and sin conquered Lyrics: The sting of death is sin, The strength of sin the law; 230 I feel the envenom'd wound within, But who the sting shall draw? Thanks be to God, I see My health in Christ His Son, Who, over sin and death, for me, The victory hath won. The law He magnified, For me its curse He bore; Who shall condemn?--'Tis Christ that died, Now lives for evermore. My name upon the roll Of His redeem'd be found, And in life's bundle be my soul, For his soul's travail bound. Scripture: Romans 10:4 Languages: English

Victory over Death

Hymnal: A Collection of Hymns and Prayers, for Public and Private Worship #372 (1845) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Consummation of Things Death First Line: When death appears before my sight Lyrics: 1 When death appears before my sight, In all his dire array; Unequal to the dreadful fight, My courage dies away. 2 How shall I meet this potent foe Whose frown my soul alarms? Dark horror sits upon his brow; And vict'ry waits his arms. 3 But see my glorious Leader nigh! Jesus, my Savior, lives: Before him death's pale terrors fly, And my faint heart revives. 4 O may I meet the final hour With fortitude divine! Sustain'd by his almighty pow'r, The conquest must be mine. 5 Lord! I commit my soul to thee: Accept the sacred trust; Receive this nobler part of me, And watch my sleeping dust. 6 O let me join angelic lays, And, with the blissful throng, Resound salvation, pow'r, and praise, In everlasting song! If Christ Had Not Been Raised from Death

Author: Christopher M. Idle, b. 1938 Hymnal: Lutheran Service Book #486 (2006) Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Topics: Death and Burial Lyrics: 1 If Christ had not been raised from death Our faith would be in vain, Our preaching but a waste of breath, Our sin and guilt remain. But now the Lord is ris'n indeed; He rules in earth and heav'n: His Gospel meets a world of need-- In Christ we are forgiv'n. 2 If Christ still lay within the tomb Then death would be the end, And we should face our final doom With neither guide nor friend. But now the Saviour is raised up, So when a Christian dies We mourn, yet look to God in hope-- In Christ the saints arise! 3 If Christ had not been truly raised His church would live a lie; His name should never more be praised, His words deserve to die. But now our great Redeemer lives; Through Him we are restored; His word endures, His church revives In Christ, our risen Lord. Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:12-26 Languages: English Tune Title: UNION CITY
