There's a Wideness in God's Mercy

Author: Frederick W. Faber, 1814-1863 Hymnal: Evangelical Lutheran Worship #587 (2006) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Topics: Welcome Lyrics: 1 There's a wideness in God's mercy, like the wideness of the sea; there's a kindness in God's justice which is more than liberty. There is no place where earth's sorrows are more felt than up in heav'n. There is no place where earth's failings have such kindly judgment giv'n. 2 There is welcome for the sinner, and a promised grace made good; there is mercy with the Savior; there is healing in his blood. There is grace enough for thousands of new worlds as great as this; there is room for fresh creations in that upper home of bliss. 3 For the love of God is broader than the measures of the mind; and the heart of the Eternal is most wonderfully kind. But we make this love too narrow by false limits of our own; and we magnify its strictness with a zeal God will not own. 4 'Tis not all we owe to Jesus; it is something more than all: greater good because of evil, larger mercy through the fall. Make our love, O God, more faithful; let us take you at your word, and our lives will be thanksgiving for the goodness of the Lord. Languages: English Tune Title: ST. HELENA

A Prophet-Woman Broke a Jar

Author: Brian Wren Hymnal: Voices United #590 (1996) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Topics: Welcome Lyrics: 1 A prophet-woman broke a jar, by Love's divine appointing. With rare perfume she filled the room, presiding and anointing. A prophet-woman broke a jar, the sneers of scorn defying. With rare perfume she filled the room, preparing Christ for dying. 2 A faithful woman left a tomb by Love's divine commission. She saw, she heard, she preached the Word, arising from submission. A faithful woman left a tomb, with resurrection gospel. She saw, she heard, she preached the Word, apostle to apostles. 3 Though woman-wisdom, woman-truth, for centuries were hidden, unsung, unwritten, and unheard, derided and forbidden, the Spirit's breath, the Spirit's fire, on free and slave descending, can tumble our dividing walls, our shame and sadness mending. 4 The Spirit knows, the Spirit calls, by Love's divine ordaining, the friends we need, to serve and lead, their powers and gifts unchaining. The Spirit knows, the Spirit calls, from women, men and children, the friends we need, to serve and lead. Rejoice, and make them welcome! Languages: English Tune Title: MEGERRAN

Make of Our Life a House of Praise

Author: Timothy Dudley-Smith, b.1926 Hymnal: Lead Me, Guide Me (2nd ed.) #611 (2012) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Welcome Lyrics: 1 Make of our life a house of praise Where all, with one accord, Unite to walk in Jesus' ways, The temple of the Lord. 2 Here may we find our prayers are heard, And grow in truth and grace, Receive from Christ his holy word And know his love's embrace. 3 May such a house of calm and peace The Spirit strive to build; Where kindliness and faith increase, The storms of life are stilled. 4 Teach us our house of life to share, That all who will may come, The lost be doubly welcome there, The wand'rer find a home. 5 So may our doors be open wide, And life together prove A house where God is glorified, And a house of praise and love. Scripture: 1 Kings 8:30 Languages: English Tune Title: RICHMOND

Kindred in Christ, for his dear sake

Hymnal: Hymns, Selected and Original #647 (1828) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: A Welcome to Christian Friends-at Meetings Lyrics: 1 Kindred in Christ, for his dear sake, A hearty welcome here receive: May we together now partake The joys which only he can give. 2 To you and us by grace 'tis given To know the Saviour's precious name; And shortly we shall meet in heaven, Our hope, our way, our end, the same. 3 May he, by whose kind care we meet, Send his good Spirit from above, Make our communications sweet, And cause our hearts to burn with love! 4 Forgotten be each worldly theme, When Christians see each other thus; We only wish to speak of him, Who liv'd, and died, and reigns for us. 5 We'll talk of all he did, and said, And suffer'd for us here below; The path he mark'd for us to tread, And what he's doing for us now. 6 Thus, as the moments pass away, We'll love, and wonder, and adore; And hasten on the glorious day, When we shall meet to part no more.

God Is Here! As We His People

Author: Fred Pratt Green, b. 1903 Hymnal: Worship (3rd ed.) #667 (1986) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Topics: Welcome Lyrics: 1 God is here! As we his people, Meet to offer praise and prayer, May we find in fuller measure What it is in Christ we share: Here, as in the world around us, All our varied skills and arts Wait the coming of his Spirit Into open minds and hearts. 2 Here are symbols to remind us Of our lifelong need of grace; Here are table, font and pulpit, Here the cross has central place: Here in honesty of preaching, Here in silence as in speech, Here in newness and renewal, God the Spirit comes to each. 3 Here our children find a welcome In the Shepherd's flock and fold; Here, as bread and wine are taken, Christ sustains us as of old: Here the servants of the Servant Seek in worship to explore What it means in daily living To believe and to adore. 4 Lord of all, of church and kingdom, In an age of change and doubt, Keep us faithful to the gospel, Help us work your purpose out: Here, in this day's dedication, All we have to give, receive: We who cannot live without yYou, We adore You! We believe! Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:27-31 Languages: English Tune Title: ABBOT'S LEIGH
