Author: Henry I. D. Ryder Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #8373 Meter: 8.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 A Boy is born in Bethlehem, Joy bringing to Jerusalem. He lieth in a manger poor Whose kingdom shall for aye endure. 2 The ox and ass knew and adored The Infant that was Christ the Lord. The kings of Saba came to bring Gold, myrrh and incense to their king. 3 The offspring He of virgin bright, Made mother by high Heaven’s might. One after one the cot forlorn Entering, they hail their prince new born. 4 The serpent’s venom knew Him not, Though of our blood He chose His lot: Made like to us in human kin, Unlike us in respect of sin. 5 That like Him He might make us be, And with Himself and God agree. Come, thou Redeemer of the earth

Author: St Ambrose, 340-97 Hymnal: The New English Hymnal #19b (1986) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 Come, thou Redeemer of the earth, And manifest thy virgin-birth: Let every age adoring fall, Such birth befits the God of all. 2 Begotten of no human will, But of the Spirit, thou art still The Word of God, in flesh arrayed, The Saviour, now to man displayed. 3 *The virgin womb that burden gained With virgin honour all unstained, The banners there of virtue glow, God in his temple dwells below. 4 *Forth from that chamber goeth he, That royal home of purity, A giant in twofold substance one, Rejoicing now his course to run. 5 *From God the Father he proceeds, To God the Father back he speeds, Runs out his course to death and hell, Returns on God’s high throne to dwell. 6 O equal to thy Father, thou! Gird on thy fleshly mantle now, The weakness of our mortal state With deathless might invigorate. 7 Thy cradle here shall glitter bright, And darkness glow with new-born light, No more shall night extinguish day, Where love's bright beams their power display. 8 O Jesu, Virgin-born, to thee Eternal praise and glory be, Whom with the Father we adore And Holy Spirit, evermore. Lord, Thou Hast Searched Me

Hymnal: Trinity Hymnal (Rev. ed.) #36 (1990) Meter: 8.8.8.8 First Line: Lord, thou has searched me, and dost know Lyrics: 1 Lord, thou hast searched me, and dost know where'er I rest, where'er I go; thou knowest all that I have planned, and all my ways are in thy hand. 2 My words from thee I cannot hide; I feel thy pow'r on every side; O wondrous knowledge, awesome might, unfathomed depth, unmeasured height! 3 Where can I go apart from thee, or whither from thy presence flee? In heav'n? - it is thy dwelling fair; in death's abode? - lo, thou art there. 4 If I the wings of morning take, and far away my dwelling make, the hand that leadeth me is thine, and my support thy pow'r divine. 5 If deepest darkness cover me, the darkness hideth not from thee; to thee both night and day are bright, the darkness shineth as the light.
