Great God, What do I See and Hear?

Author: William B. Collyer; Unknown Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Appears in 296 hymnals Topics: The Last Things Judgment Lyrics: 1 Great God, what do I see and hear? The end of things created; The Judge of mankind doth appear On clouds of glory seated. The trumpet sounds; the graves restore The dead which they contained before: Prepare, my soul, to meet Him. 2 The dead in Christ shall first arise At that last trumpet’s sounding, Caught up to meet Him in the skies, With joy their Lord surrounding. No gloomy fears their souls dismay; His presence sheds eternal day On those prepared to meet Him. 3 But sinners, filled with guilty fears, Behold His wrath prevailing, For they shall rise and find their tears And sighs are unavailing; The day of grace is past and gone; They trembling stand before His throne, All unprepared to meet Him. 4 O Christ, who diedst and yet dost live, To me impart Thy merit; My pardon seal, my sins forgive, And cleanse me by thy Spirit. Beneath Thy cross I view the day When heav’n and earth shall pass away, And thus prepare to meet Thee. Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 Used With Tune: ES IST GEWISSLICH

Jerusalem, my happy home

Author: Anon.; Joseph Bromhead Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 841 hymnals Topics: The Last Things The Heavenly Home; The Last Things The Heavenly Home Lyrics: 1 Jerusalem, my happy home, Name ever dear to me! When shall my labors have an end In joy, and peace, and thee? 2 When shall these eyes thy heaven built walls And pearly gates behold? Thy bulwarks with salvation strong, And streets of shining gold? 3 O when, thou city of my God, Shall I thy courts ascend, Where evermore the angels sing, Where sabbaths have no end? 4 There happier bowers than Eden’s bloom, Nor sin nor sorrow know: Blest seats! through rude and stormy scenes I onward press to you. 5 Why should I shrink at pain and woe, Or feel at death dismay? I’ve Canaan’s goodly land in view, And realms of endless day. 6 Apostles, martyrs, prophets there Around my Savior stand; And soon my friends in Christ below Will join the glorious band. 7 Jerusalem, my happy home! My soul still pants for thee; Then shall my labors have an end, When I thy joy shall see. Used With Tune: [Jerusalem my happy home]
