All my hope on God is founded

Author: Robert Bridges, 1844-1930; Joachim Neander, 1650-1680 Hymnal: Complete Anglican Hymns Old and New #19 (2000) Meter: 8.7.8.7.3.3.7 Topics: Hope and Consolation Lyrics: 1 All my hope on God is founded; he doth still my trust renew. Me through change and chance he guideth, only good and only true. God unknown, he alone calls my heart to be his own. 2 Human pride and earthly glory, sword and crown betray his trust; what with care and toil he buildeth, tow'r and temple, fall to dust. But God's power, hour by hour, is my temple and my towe'r. 3 God's great goodness aye endureth, deep his wisdom, passing thought: splendour, light and life attend him, beauty springeth out of naught. Evermore, from his store new-born worlds rise and adore. 4 Still from earth to God eternal sacrifice of praise be done, high above all praises praising for the gift of Christ his Son. Christ doth call one and all: ye who follow shall not fall. Scripture: 1 Peter 1:21 Languages: English Tune Title: MICHAEL

Through the night of doubt and sorrow

Author: Bernhardt Severin Ingeman, 1789-1862; Sabine Baring-Gould, 1834-1924 Hymnal: Complete Anglican Hymns Old and New #687a (2000) Meter: 8.7.8.7 Topics: Hope and Consolation Lyrics: 1 Through the night of doubt and sorrow onward goes the pilgrim band, singing songs of expectation, marching to the promised land. 2 Clear before us, through the darkness gleams and burns the guiding light; so we march in hope united, stepping fearless through the night. 3 One the light of God's own presence o'er his ransomed people shed, chasing far the gloom and terror, bright'ning all the path we tread. 4 One the object of our journey, one the faith which never tires, one the earnest looking forward, one the hope our God inspires. 5 One the strain that lips of thousands lift as from the heart of one; one the conflict, one the peril, one the march in God begun. 6 One the gladness of rejoicing on the far eternal shore, where the one almighty Father reigns in love for evermore. 7 Onward, therefore, fellow pilgrims, onward with the Cross our aid; bear its shame and fight its battle, till we rest beneath its shade. 8 Soon shall come the great awaking, soon the rending of the tomb; then the scatt'ring of all shadows, and the end of toil and gloom. Scripture: Exodus 13:21 Languages: English Tune Title: MARCHING

Happy are they, they that love God

Author: Robert Bridges, 1844-1930; Charles Coffin, 1676-1749 Hymnal: Complete Anglican Hymns Old and New #262 (2000) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Hope and Consolation Lyrics: 1 Happy are they, they that love God, whose hearts have Christ confessed, who by his cross have found their life, and 'neath his yoke their rest. 2 Glad is the praise, sweet are the songs, when they together sing; and strong the prayers that bow the ear of heav'n's eternal King. 3 Christ to their homes giveth his peace, and makes their loves his own: but ah, what tares the evil one hath in his garden sown! 4 Sad were our lot, evil this earth, did not its sorrows prove the path whereby the sheep may find the fold of Jesus' love. 5 Then shall they know, they that love him, how hope is wrought through pain; their fellowship, through death itself, unbroken will remain. Scripture: John 10:11-16 Languages: English Tune Title: BINCHESTER

Amazing grace

Author: John Newton, 1725-1807; John Rees, 1828-1900 Hymnal: Complete Anglican Hymns Old and New #29 (2000) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Hope and Consolation First Line: Amazing grace, how sweet the sound Lyrics: 1 Amazing grace! How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I'm found; was blind, but now I see. 2 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed. 3 Through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come. 'Tis grace that brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home. 4 The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures; he will my shield and portion be as long as life endures. 5 When we've been there a thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we've no less days to sing God's praise than when we first begun. Scripture: 1 Corinthians 11:23-25 Languages: English Tune Title: AMAZING GRACE

As pants the hart for cooling streams

Hymnal: Complete Anglican Hymns Old and New #44 (2000) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Hope and Consolation Lyrics: 1 As pants the hart for cooling streams when heated in the chase, so longs my soul, O God, for thee, and thy refreshing grace. 2 For thee, my God, the living God, my thirsty soul doth pine: O when shall I behold thy face, thou majesty divine? 3 Why restless, why cast down, my soul? hope still, and thou shalt sing the praise of him who is thy God, thy health's eternal spring. 4 To Father, Son and Holy Ghost, the God whom we adore, be glory, as it was, is now, and shall be evermore. Scripture: Psalm 42 Languages: English Tune Title: MARTYRDOM
