From Depths of Woe I Cry to Thee

Author: Martin Luther; Catherine Winkworth Hymnal: Christian Worship #130F (2021) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Topics: Holy Innocents Lyrics: 1 From depths of woe I cry to thee, Lord, hear me, I implore thee. Bend down thy gracious ear to me, my prayer let come before thee. If thou rememb'rest each misdeed, if each should have its rightful meed, who may abide thy presence? 2 Thy love and grace alone avail to blot out my transgression; the best and holiest deeds must fail to break sin's dread oppression. Before thee none can boasting stand, but all must fear thy strict demand and live alone by mercy. 3 Therefore my hope is in the LORD and not in mine own merit; it rests upon his faithful Word to them of contrite spirit that he is merciful and just; this is my comfort and my trust. His help I wait with patience. 4 And though it tarry till the night and till the morning waken, my heart shall never doubt his might nor count itself forsaken. Do thus, O ye of Israel's seed, ye of the Spirit born indeed; wait for your God's appearing. 5 Though great our time and sore our woes, his grace much more aboundeth; his helping love no limit knows, our utmost need it soundeth. Our Shepherd good and true is He, who will at last his Israel free from all their sin and sorrow. Scripture: Psalm 130 Languages: English Tune Title: AUS TIEFER NOT

Glory to Thee, O Lord

Author: Mrs. Emma Toke Hymnal: The Hymnal, Revised and Enlarged, as adopted by the General Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America in the year of our Lord 1892 #147 (1894) Meter: 6.6.8.6 Topics: Other Feasts and Fasts Holy Innocents Lyrics: 1 Glory to Thee, O Lord, Who, from this world of sin, By cruel Herod's ruthless sword Those precious ones didst win. 2 Baptized in their own blood, Earth's untried perils o'er, They passed unconsciously the flood, And safely gained the shore. 3 Glory to Thee for all The ransomed infant band, Who since that hour have heard Thy call, And reached the quiet land. 4 Oh, that our hearts within, Like theirs, were pure and bright; Oh, that as free from deeds of sin We shrank not from Thy sight. 5 Lord, help us every hour Thy cleansing grace to claim; In life to glorify Thy power, In death to praise Thy Name. Amen. Languages: English Tune Title: [Glory to Thee, O Lord]
