Arise, my soul, arise

Author: C. Wesley, 1707-1788 Hymnal: Methodist Hymn and Tune Book #94a (1917) Topics: Witness of the Spirit; Spirit Witness of the Lyrics: 1 Arise, my soul, arise, Shake off thy guilty fears; The bleeding sacrifice In my behalf appears; Before the throne my surety stands; My name is written on His hands. 2 He ever lives above, For me to intercede, His all-redeeming love, His precious blood, to plead; His blood atoned for all our race, And sprinkles now the throne of grace. 3 Five bleeding wounds He bears, Received on Calvary; They pour effectual prayers, They strongly speak for me: "Forgive him, O forgive," they cry, "Nor let that ransomed sinner die!" 4 The Father hears Him pray, His dear anointed One; He cannot turn away The presence of His Son: His Spirit answers to the blood, And tells me I am born of God. 5 My God is reconciled, His pardoning voice I hear He owns me for His child, I can no longer fear; With confidence I now draw nigh, And "Father, Abba, Father!" cry. Come, Thou almighty King

Author: Charles Wesley Hymnal: Book of Worship with Hymns and Tunes #179 (1899) Topics: Witness of the Spirit Lyrics: 1 Come, Thou almighty King, Help us Thy name to sing, Help us to praise! Father all-glorious, O'er all victorious, Come and reign over us, Ancient of days. 2 Jesus, our Lord, descend; From all our foes defend, Nor let us fall: Let Thine almighty aid Our sure defence be made, Our souls on Thee be stayed; Lord, hear our call! 3 Come, holy Comforter, Thy sacred witness bear, In this glad hour; Thou, Who almighty art, Now rule in every heart, And ne'er from us depart, Spirit of power. 4 To thee, great One in Three, The highest praises be, Hence evermore! Our love so cold, so faint to Thee, And Thine to us so great? 4 Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove, With all Thy quickening powers; Come, shed abroad a Saviour's love, And that shall kindle ours. Amen. Eternal Spirit! we confess

Hymnal: Book of Worship (Rev. ed.) #180 (1870) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Witness of the Spirit Lyrics: 1 Eternal Spirit! we confess And sing the wonders of Thy grace: Thy power conveys our blessings down From God the Father and the Son. 2 Enlighten'd by Thy heavenly ray, Our shades and darkness turn to day; Thine inward teachings make us know Our danger and our refuge too. 3 Thy glorious power works within, And breaks the chains of reigning sin, Do our imperious lusts subdue, And form our wretched hearts anew. 4 The troubled conscience knows Thy voice, Thy cheering words awake our joys; Thy words allay the stormy wind, And calm the surges of the mind. God of our fathers, known of old

Author: Rudyard Kipling, 1865- Hymnal: Methodist Hymn and Tune Book #419a (1917) Topics: Witness of the Spirit; Spirit Witness of the Lyrics: 1 God of our fathers, known of old, Lord of our far-flung battle line, Beneath whose awful hand we hold Dominion over palm and pine: Lord God of hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget, lest we forget. 2 The tumult and the shouting dies; The captains and the kings depart; Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice, An humble and a contrite heart: Lord God of hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget, lest we forget. 3 Far called our navies melt away, On dune and headland sinks the fire; Lo, all our pomp of yesterday Is one with Nineveh and Tyre! Judge of the nations, spare us yet, Lest we forget, lest we forget. 4 If, drunk with sight of power, we loose Wild tongues that have not Thee in awe, Such boastings as the Gentiles use, Or lesser breeds without the law: Lord God of hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget, lest we forget. 5 For heathen heart that puts her trust In reeking tube and iron shard; All valiant dust that builds on dust, And guarding calls not Thee to guard: For frantic boast and foolish word, Thy mercy on Thy people, Lord. Languages: English Tune Title: RECESSIONAL

Holy Ghost, with light divine
